It's a great way to weed out bad motors, too. So keeping that in mind, we're going to reel off 17 awful cars that don't pass muster right here. You're sure to recognize some of these names, folks!
GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra 1500 might look like a solid, dependable vehicle — but that's not the case! As motorists have found out to their detriment, this beast has faulty brakes, dodgy steering, and issues with the transmission. It's also a gas guzzler, which is another black mark. Insuring it doesn't come cheap, either.
Jaguar F-Pace
When it works, few cars are more pleasurable to drive than the Jaguar F-Pace. But there lies the problem — it often doesn't work. The F-Pace has frequent issues with its fuel pumps and electrical systems. Due to that, this is usually a very expensive vehicle to maintain. You can do much better, folks!
Mitsubishi Mirage
Loud? Check. Underpowered? Check. Awful interiors? You bet! Yep, the Mitsubishi Mirage is a bit of a mess. Plus, in addition to those issues, there's other problems to contend with, too. And they're much more serious. This model has had frequent recalls to deal with faulty brakes and airbag systems.
Nissan Frontier
The Nissan Frontier is problematic whatever way you look at it. Models on the slightly older-side are known to have issues with their engines, transmission, and airbags. Meanwhile, newer Frontiers aren't particularly efficient or comfortable to drive. Yikes! If you want a reliable motor, this isn't the route to go down.
Fiat 500L
Space is definitely at a premium when you get inside a Fiat 500L. The interior's pretty snug! But that's the least of this car's problems. It's also prone to transmission and engine issues. Oh, and we can't forget about the recalls, either. Certain 500Ls had serious suspension and airbag faults in the past. Some even suffered fuel leaks.
Volvo XC60
Is the Volvo XC60 a stylish car? Undoubtedly. Is it flawless, though? No chance! This motor has an iffy infotainment system, on top of engine and transmission troubles. Oof. Its performance on the road often leaves much to be desired as well. For a vehicle that commands such a high price, that's hugely disappointing.
Volkswagen Jetta
Don't be fooled by the Volkswagen Jetta's good fuel economy and stylish frame. This car has problems — lots of them! The transmission is known to be faulty, the engine often goes wrong, and the electrical systems don't always work. Plus, the Jetta's interior is pretty lame compared to other motors.
Lincoln Aviator
Visually, the Lincoln Aviator seems like a top-of-the-line SUV. It looks gorgeous! But if you dig a little deeper, serious issues start to crop up. This vehicle has a spotty track record when it comes to the airbag system and on-board electronics. It isn't the best of performers, either.
Chevrolet Blazer
As eye-catching as it might be, the Chevrolet Blazer is a fairly problematic vehicle. Why? Well, alongside an iffy engine, this isn't the most comfortable motor to ride in. Insuring it also costs a lot of money. The red flags quickly pile up here, folks.
Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
Never judge a book by its cover — especially in the case of the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. This vehicle might look the part, but it's plagued by significant issues. For instance, its charging systems are unreliable, the battery warmers don't always work, and the engine can shut down without warning.
Rivian R1T
The Rivian R1T feels like an exciting glimpse into the future. Just look at that jaw-dropping exterior! It's not without its problems, though. The suspension system is a constant concern, while glitches in the software are another big worry. The charging connector is also too advanced for most public charging stations.
Dodge Durango
The Dodge Durango is an absolute beast of a motor. It's as powerful as it looks, folks! But boy, does it have issues. The exhaust manifolds are known to fail, while the engine frequently ticks. It also guzzles gas like nobody's business. Oh, and it's not the most comfortable SUV to ride in, either.
Ford Bronco
Interested in picking up a recent Ford Bronco model? Well, you might want to think twice about that. This SUV doesn't just have transmission and engine issues. It's loud to drive, guzzles a ton of gas, and has a really poor interior. Some Broncos were even recalled for having cracked fuel injectors not so long ago. That's a fire hazard!
Polestar 2
A car that just oozes style, the Polestar 2 looks like the perfect electric vehicle. It isn't, though — not by a long shot! If you value smooth rides, you'll hate this thing. On top of that, the batteries aren't reliable and the infotainment is spotty at best.
Land Rover Range Rover Sport
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is slick, powerful, and very easy to look at. What's not to like here? Quite a bit, actually! This vehicle has a dodgy electrical system and an unreliable engine. Maintaining it can cost a fortune. Your wallet will be in a constant state of panic.
Buick Encore
The Buick Encore does have a couple of things in its favor. It's a decent size and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Beyond that, though? Yikes. This vehicle is weak, has an unreliable transmission, and includes a faulty air conditioning system. One to avoid, then? Absolutely.
Jeep Wrangler
To say that the Jeep Wrangler has a laundry list of problems would be a major understatement. Prepare to take a deep breath, folks! Issues include stiff steering, a body prone to rust, iffy fuel lines, unreliable airbags, and a less than comfortable interior. Its fuel economy sucks, too.
