Hummer H2
There's no other way of saying it, folks — the Hummer H2 is a monster. This stylish beast demands your attention on the road. But does it make for a fun drive? No way! The ride quality is iffy, it's really hard to maneuver, and the road noise is incessant. And don't get us started on the H2's fuel economy, either. It's woeful.
Triumph Stag
It's hard to hate on a car that looks this good! Yep, the Triumph Stag is one of the most attractive British motors from the 1970s. Its lines are ridiculously slick, right? But is there substance behind all that style? Unfortunately not. The Stag is infamous for its shortcomings. A troublesome V8 engine? Bad handling? Questionable performances? It's got all three.
Chevrolet Corvair
With its rear-engine setup and beautiful exterior, the Chevrolet Corvair looked like a dream car to own back in the 1960s. Was it, though? Probably not! The rear suspension was the stuff of nightmares. It greatly hampered the Corvair's handling on the road, leading to some very hairy moments. Would you drive one if given the chance? Our next entry has issues, too...
DeLorean DMC-12
Visually, it can't be denied that the DeLorean DMC-12 is an awesome-looking car. From the stainless-steel body to the gull-wing doors, it does so much right. And it gets extra brownie points for its Back to the Future connections! But make no mistake, folks — the DMC-12 is also an absolute disaster on the road. Its V6 engine is horrendous, the handling's iffy, and it sucks to drive. What a shame.
Fiat X1/9
The Fiat X1/9 ticks plenty of boxes. It has a great look, stellar handling, and an eye-catching top. But early models are grossly underpowered. 60 horsepower or so? For a sports car? Yikes! And it gets worse, folks. The X1/9 has a pretty bad reputation for its electronics and tendency to rust as well. It's a miserable motor to own.
Alfa Romeo Alfetta
Struggling to take your eyes off the Alfa Romeo Alfetta? We don't blame you! This Italian motor is an absolute stunner. It handles quite well, too. Yet the car's problems can't be ignored. It's very unreliable on the road, suffering with rust issues and mechanical troubles. That sucks to hear, right? A vehicle that looks this good deserves so much better.
Fiat 500L
On looks alone, the Fiat 500L seems like a nice car to own. It's exceptionally stylish. Driving one, though? Oh boy. You'll be quite miserable by the end of your journey! The 500L is stiff, sluggish, and has awful handling. People often call it "mediocre" — but we think that's being too kind. Is our next entry any better? Let's find out.
Mini Cooper Coupe
The Mini Cooper Coupe certainly passes the eye-test. How can you not be struck by its gorgeous design! Having said that, it's a real pain to drive. It doesn't make for the most comfortable of rides on bumpy roads, while its rear visibility is pratically non-existant. Good luck reversing into a parking space. And the handling? Oh man. It leaves much to be desired.
Nissan Juke
Visually, you can't accuse the Nissan Juke of being boring. It's one of the most eye-catching subcompact crossover SUVs on the road today. Unfortunately, though, its performances pale in comparison. The Juke's turbo engine can feel incredibly sluggish, while the ride itself is pretty harsh. In addition to that, the interior is surprisingly cramped. Space is at a premium here, folks.
Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible
The Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible sure is something, right? Talk about wildly stylish! But how does it drive? Well, we've got some bad news on that front. This jaw-dropping car has questionable handling, bad acceleration, and offers a horrible ride. You'll feel like you're sitting in a bounce house. To add to that, the chassis also rattles once the top comes down. Oh dear.
Chevrolet SSR
A convertible pickup truck? That could never work, right? Well, say hello to the Chevrolet SSR. It doesn't do much wrong in the looks department. But beyond that? Hmm. This unique motor has poor handling and an equally-bad suspension. The steering is a big problem, too. If that isn't enough, the SSR is also plagued by electrical gremlins.
Maserati Ghibli
How best to describe the Maserati Ghibli. Slick? Stylish? Gorgeous? Aggressive? All of the above? It's a wonderful car to look at. But owning one can be a bit of a chore. Early Ghibli models are quite unreliable on the road. The transmission, brakes, cooling system, and electronics have all been flagged up as problematic. What a bummer.
Smart ForTwo
Hands up if you're a fan of the Smart ForTwo's appearance. Don't be shy! You'll be in decent company. It's got a pretty cool look. But here's the thing — it makes for a miserable drive! The ForTwo has a horribly jerky transmission that also has a tendency to overheat. The clutch is something of a ticking time bomb, too.
Jeep Compass (First Generation)
The Jeep Compass is a visual delight — especially the first generation. Mind you, it's got a bunch of problems that ruin the driving experience. The suspension's bad, the transmission overheats, the handling's lame, and the electronics aren't that great. We can't forget about the hard plastic interior, either. Compared to the body, it feels shockingly cheap.
Toyota C-HR
The Toyota C-HR is a very hard vehicle to ignore. Just look at it! Car designs don't come much cooler than this. But is it fun to drive? No, to put it bluntly. The base engine is incredibly underwhelming. It takes over 10 seconds to reach 62 mph on the road. Sheesh. On top of that, the C-HR's cabin gets pretty noisy, too.
Aston Martin DB7
When it comes to great looks, there are few Aston Martin models that can touch the DB7. It's a beaut! How does it drive, though? Will it leave you elated or frustrated? Sadly, it's the latter. Yep, the DB7 is known for its unresponsive steering and troublesome chassis. The interior isn't much to shout about, either.
Disco Volante by Touring Superleggera
Is the Disco Volante by Touring Superleggera the best-looking motor on this list? It's certainly in the conversation. You could gawk at it all day, right! But it's not a perfect car. At all. The transmission is far too slow, while the ride quality is iffy to say the least. Oh, and the handling? You never know what you're going to get there.
Maserati 3200 GT
The Maserati 3200 GT has a lot in its favor. It's got a tremendous look and boasts a very beefy V8 engine. A top speed of 174 mph? Yes please! It does have issues, though. Big ones. The automatic gearbox and suspension are both quite poor, while the steering is far too sensitive. It makes for a hair-raising drive.
BMW Z8
The BMW Z8 is a strikingly gorgeous vehicle. And it's got a stunning engine to match. The 4.9-liter V8 pulls no punches! Yet its horrible understeer and overall handling really drag it down. The Z8's suspension often gets criticized as well. Is it in a better spot than our final entry, though?
Spyker C8
How's this for a beautiful motor? The Spyker C8 has a jaw-dropping design that blows most other cars out of the water. We could stare at it for hours! Is it worth driving, though? That's highly debatable. It has bad understeer, woeful brakes, and the ride is really stiff. What a pity.
