Random Sensor Issues
It goes without saying that sensors are absolutely vital. They're not described as your car's "eyes and ears" for nothing! Mind you, some Genesis owners have noticed a troubling trend with their vehicles. Yep, a number of the safety feature sensors, such as parking assist, are prone to malfunctioning, triggering error messages inside the car. Oh boy. That's a big concern, right?
Malfunctioning Infotainment System
Given the importance that's placed on infotainment systems nowadays, you'd hope that your car's setup is in full working order. But for Genesis owners, it's something of a coin toss! People have reported that their infotainment displays frequently flicker, freeze, or go entirely blank. Yikes. That's a sure-fire way to leave you pining for your old motor. And there's more where that came from, folks...
The Engine
We won't beat around the bush here — Genesis engines can be a real headache. Plenty of folks have experienced power loss behind the wheel, while rough idling isn't unheard of, either. The vibrations and weird sounds are very off-putting! But the issues don't end there. Other drivers have reported that their engine constantly stalls, too. Ouch. That hurts to read.
The Transmission
Is the transmission a problem-free area in Genesis vehicles? Not quite! Some owners have faced significant issues here. Alongside strange noises, they've noticed delayed shifting, slipping gears, and a few other concerns. There's also been reports of burning smells coming from the system, due to the transmission fluid overheating. Yuck. How does that compare to our next entry, though? Let's find out...
Battery Drain
Could the batteries be better in Genesis cars? Many owners would say so! Yes, models such as the GV70 and GV80 are known to have problems in that area. Premature drain is frustratingly common — the battery just can't seem to handle frequently short trips. The weather doesn't help, either. If you live in an exceptionally hot or cold climate, the temperature will hurt its performance.
Flickering Dashboard
Should Genesis owners be concerned with their dashboards? We'd say so. Why? Well, recent models have experienced some eye-catching issues. The flickering is arguably the biggest concern — how can drivers take note of their speed or fuel levels if the instrument cluster can't stay on? And in other cases, it switches off altogether. Holy cow! That sounds like a nightmare.
Premature Brake Wear
Not all Genesis cars suffer with premature brake wear. But it is a problem that many owners have faced with models such as the GV70 and GV80. The rear brake pads seem to wear out a lot quicker than those at the front, reducing the vehicle's braking power. It's scary stuff, folks. Our next entry presents a different kind of issue, though...
Poor Build Quality
In the main, Genesis is pretty reliable when it comes to build quality. Yet its track-record isn't perfect. At all. Quite a few owners have reported issues with their cars' body panel alignment, flagging up noticeable gaps. On top of that, some have also spotted loose trim pieces inside the vehicles. That's rough! Once you've seen those kind of defects, it's almost impossible to ignore them.
Weak Windshields
All cars should sport a durable windshield, right? In reality, though, that's not the case. Certain Genesis models are known for having very weak windshields that crack at the slightest contact. And we aren't just talking about road debris here — some can't even handle a simple car wash! To make matters worse, replacements don't always come cheap, either. Oof.
Noisy Steering and Suspension
How's this for a significant worry? A bunch of Genesis owners have noticed some strange sounds in their cars, coming from both the suspension and the steering. We're talking creaks, knocking, popping, whining — that sort of stuff. Noises you don't want to hear inside a vehicle! A trip to the local mechanic is an absolute must here to avoid further headaches.
AC Problems
Do Genesis cars have an AC problem? Well, some certainly do! Owners have flagged up issues such as uneven cooling, weak airflow, and complete system failure. As for the causes, they can vary quite a bit. Clogged cabin filters, electrical faults, and refrigerant leaks all contribute towards a troublesome air conditioning setup. It can be a real pain to fix.
Remote Start Issues
There's no other way of saying it, folks — Genesis has a remote start problem. So many owners have reported issues with this feature. From poor feedback on the key fob to climate control troubles, the negatives pile up pretty quickly. And in addition to that, the system can fail completely at the drop of a hat, too.
Seat Trouble
Hands up if you're a fan of heated seats. We thought so! This feature is amazing when winter hits. And the same can be said about ventilated seats in the summer as well. But some Genesis models don't play nice here. Owners have flagged up issues with the inner workings of their seats, noting that they can't function.
Paint-Related ADAS Headaches
Okay, so we need to be clear here. This particular issue was resolved by Genesis following a recall. But even so, it still caused plenty of headaches! It affected the G90 model with the Savile Silver paint job. The paint's aluminum contents messed with the advanced driver-assistance systems, causing the car to brake without warning. It was incredibly dangerous.
Poor Connectivity
Could Genesis vehicles have better connectivity? You bet! Plenty of owners have complained about this over the years. Features related to Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and the Genesis Connected Services don't always work, leaving drivers in a bit of a pickle. Do you need to do a software update? Reset the system? Whatever the answer, it's pretty dang annoying.
The Speakers
If you like listening to music in cars, then you might want to swerve Genesis. How come? Well, several owners have reported major issues with their speaker systems. The problems include distorted audio, intermittent sound, rattling, and a complete loss of sound. Oh boy. In most cases, it's down to loose wiring or a faulty amplifier.
Dealer Communication
If something goes wrong with your car, good communication with the dealer can be a massive help. When it comes to Genesis, though, it's a real struggle. Countless owners have complained about the brand's poor service, ranging from unanswered calls to broken promises. Lengthy waits for appointments are a major frustration as well. It's enough to make you scream!
Loaner Car Problems
Speaking of frustrating, that brings us on to our next entry. Genesis does offer loaner cars if you need them. But not all owners are able to access the service due to inconsistent availability. On top of that, some of the brand's dealerships are ridiculously unreliable when it comes to providing the loaners. What a mess!
Lack of Available Parts
If your car needs a replacement part, you'd hope that it can be sourced fairly quickly. But with Genesis? Oh man. Plenty of owners have spoken up about the long wait times due to the lack of available parts. As most of the components are built in South Korea, they need to be shipped across to America. And that can take months.
The Fuel Pump
Have you just bought a used Genesis model from 2022 or 2023? If so, it might be wise to get your fuel pump checked. Certain cars from that period, such as the GV70, G80, and G90, had major problems there. It was so bad that Genesis was forced to invoke a huge recall. Owners had a right to be worried, folks!
