Automakers Are Bringing Back These Awesome Car Names
Over the years, there have been a number of car models whose names alone spark the interest of automotive enthusiasts. Even though many of them have since been discontinued, there is a growing trend in which automakers are bringing back some of their most iconic titles. Let’s take a closer look at some iconic car names that automakers are bringing back.
Acura Integra
The original Acura Integra was an SUV. However, the brand has announced its plans to release a new Integra - one that is much sportier. Even so, they have promised that the new design will stay true to the original Integra, while simultaneously bringing with it a few upgrades.
Buick Encore
Buick announced that it would be bringing back the name ‘Encore’ for one of their new models. While they did consider an entirely new name, they ultimately decided that by recycling the name of one of their most popular models, customers would have a better sense of what they should expect out of the car.
Chevrolet Blazer
GM announced that it would be adding a new mid-size crossover SUV to its lineup. While the car is new, the name is not, however. They settled on the name ‘Blazer’, which had previously been one of their most popular model lines.
Ford Mustang Mach-E
The Ford Mustang doesn’t really need any sort of introduction. However, Ford announced that they would be adding an electric model to their ever-popular Mustang lineup and called it the ‘Ford Mustang Mach-E’. We wonder if it has the same power and speed as the original Mustang models…
Ford F-150 Lightning
The name ‘F-150 Lightning’ is being brought back to identify Ford’s new full-size pickup truck. Like the original version, the new car offers a strong performance and driving dynamics, making it an instant hit amongst Ford lovers.
GMC Hummer
The Hummer is by far one of GMC’s most popular models ever released. For this reason, automotive enthusiasts were obviously excited to see what the all-new Hummer model had to offer, especially when compared to the original version. One of the biggest differences is that the new car is fully electric.
Jeep Grand Wagoneer
When Jeep announced the release of its brand-new Grand Wagoneer model, the public had mixed reactions. The new version bears little resemblance to the original, which makes the recycled name seem a bit misleading.
Ford Bronco
Ford has had their fair share of successes over the years. However, few come close to that of the Bronco. The original was released in 1966, and they've been reviving the name every few years - with the latest revival dating from 2021.
Mazda CX-3
In recent years, Mazda announced its plans to bring back one of its most famous models: the CX-3. However, they would be adding a new twist and, therefore, updating the name to CX-30.
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Mitsubishi plans to recycle the name ‘Eclipse’ for one of its new compact crossover vehicles. However, as the original Eclipse was a sports coupe, this name exchange hasn’t exactly gone down well with Eclipse owners.
Nissan Rogue
The Nissan Rogue has always been one of the brand's best-sellers. For this reason, the company released an all-new model in the US and named it the Rogue Sport, hoping to attract attention with a similar name. This only confused buyers, however, as the car was ultimately the same and not, in any way, sportier than the original design.
Renault 5
The Renault 5 is set to make a comeback as a stylish, fully-electric car. However, despite the obvious differences, the new version will pay homage to the original, while simultaneously incorporating modern technology and upgrades.
Ford Capri
The name ‘Capri’ simply screams nostalgia. While the original Ford Capri was a sleek, two-door coupe, the new version is an electric SUV. This announcement left many Capri-owners confused and, quite frankly, a bit insulted, as it simply takes away from the style and class associated with the name.
Fiat Topolino
The name ‘Topolino’ was last used by Fiat in the 1950s. However, the new version is set to be a compact, two-door electric vehicle. To pay homage to the original, the automaker will incorporate retro-styling, including oval headlights, classic wheel trims, and even a suitcase rack.
Vauxhall Frontera
The Vauxhall Frontera is making a comeback after 20 years of being discontinued. While the original was a boxy 4x4, the new version is set to be a compact SUV, available in both gas and electric models. We aren’t entirely sure why they settled on recycling the old name, as the new version seems to be a completely different vehicle.
