The Importance of Safety Recalls
When the latest cars roll off the production line, some of them may need to be recalled to rectify a certain issue. In a lot of cases, it comes down to a safety concern. But how severe are these problems? And what vehicles have been recalled over the years? Well, we're going to take a closer look at a selection of popular names right here!
2023 Kia Sportage
Following its release in 2023, the Kia Sportage had a partial recall to fix a loose nut in the alternator. This issue had the potential to cause sudden engine stalls, which is bad news when you're on the road. In total, it was estimated that just under 20,000 Sportages were affected by this fault.
2017-2019 Subaru Impreza
If you owned a Subaru Impreza that came out between 2017 and 2019, you might've been affected by this recall. A selection of those cars had issues with their reflex reflectors and the left low beam reflector. They were harder to see as a result. More than 188,000 Imprezas were said to have this problem.
2016 Volkswagen Golf
The 2016 Volkswagen Golf was another vehicle that had a partial recall following its release. Around 1,200 of them were said to have a major airbag issue on the front passenger's side. Shockingly, there was a chance that the airbag could explode during a deployment. Yikes!
2022 BMW I4 M50
While this wasn't the biggest of recalls, a small selection of 2022 BMW i4 M50s had a major problem with their batteries. Yes, they were said to have internal damage that could cause an electrical short-circuit. That made the cars a fire risk. No wonder they were recalled!
2019-2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
For those of you who owned a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport between 2019 and 2022, this recall would've come with great interest. Over 76,000 of those cars were said to be affected by a transmission problem that could cause the engine to stall. Quite the number, wouldn't you agree?
2019-2021 Audi Q8
Close to 50,000 Audi Q8s from 2019 to 2021 were recalled after rolling out. Why? Well, those cars had an issue with their fuel pump. One of the inner components had the potential to break, leading to a complete fuel pump failure. That particular problem can cause the engine to stall.
2021 Kia Sorento
The 2021 Kia Sorento had a partial recall when more than 21,000 cars with the 2.5L turbocharged engine were said to have issues. It's believed that there was a chance of a fuel leak in the area between the rail and the pump. That kind of leak makes vehicles a fire risk.
2021 GMC Canyon
How's this for an interesting fault? A number of GMC Canyons from 2021 were recalled for displaying the incorrect carrying capacity. It's said the total was 51 pounds over the actual limit. So, folks ran the risk of overloading their Canyons. Too much weight can impact both performance and safety.
2004-2007 Mazda 3
The Mazda 3 had a big recall for its cars made between 2004 and 2007. Yes, over 260,000 vehicles were potentially affected by an airbag issue. The steering wheel's plastic emblem could essentially burst upon deployment, firing shards at the passengers. Talk about a crazy hazard!
2021 Nissan Rogue
The Nissan Rogue's 2021 model had a partial recall to fix a troubling issue. A number of those cars were potentially affected by a poorly-welded tether wire in the seatback frame. As a result, child seats couldn't be securely fastened inside the vehicles. More than 47,000 Rogues were said to have this problem.
2018-2021 Lamborghini Huracán
There's no denying that the Lamborghini Huracán is a stunning motor. But even so, a selection of those cars from 2018 to 2021 were recalled to fix a frustrating problem. Yes, just over 2,700 Huracáns were said to have a software error that affected the rearview camera. Cold temperatures stopped them from working!
2020-2021 Land Rover Discovery
Sometimes, a seemingly small issue can lead to catastrophy. Which brings us on to the Land Rover Discovery recall. Close to 1,400 vehicles from 2020 to 2021 were potentially affected by a loose contact that sat between the chassis and the battery ground stud. This error could cause the car to shut down without warning on the road. Scary stuff, right?
2021 Ram 1500
While they might not share much in common, the Lamborghini Huracán and the Ram 1500 were partially recalled for a similar problem. Some of the latter's 2021 models had issues with their rearview cameras. They just didn't work properly! Unlike the Huracán, though, cold weather wasn't to blame here.
2000-2001 BMW 3 Series
The BMW 3 Series had a pretty large recall of its 2000 and 2001 models due to a worrying airbag issue. Certain cars that had NADI inflators installed were potentially at risk here. The airbags could either underinflate or explode as a result of absorbing too much moisture.
2018-2020 Tesla Model 3
We wouldn't blame you for thinking that the Tesla Model 3 was partially recalled for an electrical issue. But that wasn't the case! A selection of cars from 2018 to 2020 were said to have a seatbelt problem that affected the fastener. It wasn't securely fixed to the seat.
2013-2021 Ford Transit Connect
How's this for a large-scale problem? Over 192,000 Ford Transit Connect vehicles made between 2013 and 2021 were said to be affected by a faulty bushing. It could stop the motor from switching to the correct gear, and that's bad news when you're on the road! It led to an important recall.
2020-2021 Infiniti QX80
Were you affected when the Infiniti QX80 had a partial recall for its 2020 and 2021 models? Around 24,000 of those vehicles were said to have a faulty component inside their fuel pump module. The issue could ultimately lead to fuel pump failure. And as we noted earlier, that's bad for the engine!
2021 Jeep Cherokee
The 2021 Jeep Cherokee had a significant recall when a worrying problem came to light. Close to 19,000 vehicles were potentially affected by a poorly-cured transmission oil cooler hose. It could leak transmission fluid, which made those Cherokees a fire risk.
2013-2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
A troubling issue was detected in certain Hyundai Santa Fe Sports, leading to a large recall. Yes, over 151,000 vehicles from the 2013 to 2015 model years were said to be affected by a faulty anti-lock braking system. It had the potential to leak and ultimately cause a fire in the engine bay.
2020-2021 Dodge Durango
Even the strongest of beasts aren't immune to a partial recall, folks! Yes, a selection of Dodge Durangos from 2020 to 2021 were said to be affected by a faulty side airbag fastener. This issue could lead to a bad deployment, which was bad news for the passengers.
2022 Kia Carnival
The 2022 Kia Carnival was another vehicle that required a small recall to fix a large problem. More than 2,700 of those cars were potentially affected by a busted plastic fuel rail tube. If that component is damaged in any way, it could leak gas inside the motor.
2021 Porsche Cayenne
The 2021 model of the Porsche Cayenne had a partial recall when a worrying fault cropped up. The rear axle was the area of concern, as a lock nut showed signs of breaking. If that happened, the axle could come out of alignment and put the driver at risk. Around 1,500 Cayennes were said to have this issue.
2017-2018 Kia Forte
Did you own a Kia Forte that came out between 2017 and 2018? Yes? Well, we'd love to know if you were affected by this partial recall! Around 4,000 of those vehicles were said to have a faulty oil pump that would retain unwanted particles. This issue could ultimately damage the engine.
2009-2015 Toyota Venza
The Toyota Venza had a significant recall to repair a potentially fatal fault. Nearly 280,000 vehicles made between 2009 and 2015 were said to be affected by damaged wiring on the driver's side. That damage could've broken the airbag sensor, which would stop it from deploying during an accident.
2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio was another car in need of a small recall. A selection of those vehicles were potentially affected by a badly-fitted clamp in the side airbags. This fault could stop the airbags from working properly in the event of an accident.
2020 Nissan Murano
Following the release of its 2020 model, the Nissan Murano had a pretty large recall. Yep, over 15,000 of those cars were said to have a faulty transverse link. This component could detach from the vehicle's ball joint, making it much harder to drive.
2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E certainly passes the eye-test. It's a gorgeous motor! But some of those cars had to be recalled to fix a troubling issue. The subframe bolts found at the front were looser than they should've been, making the vehicle more susceptible to damage in an accident.
2013-2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
How's this for a specific issue? Mitsubishi Outlander Sports made between 2013 and 2015 had a sizable recall to fix a front control arm fault. But the problem was only found in a selection of vehicles that were sold in 23 different states. New York and Michigan were among them.
2006-2008 Infiniti FX35
As we're about to learn here, some cars can be recalled more than once. In the case of the Infiniti FX35 models from 2006 to 2008, they first received a partial recall to fix the front passenger airbag. But it wasn't installed correctly, so the vehicles had to go back again!
2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty
The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is a massive vehicle. But even the biggest motors have a weight-limit! So that brings us on to the partial recall here. Nearly 10,000 of those F-350s had an incorrectly-labeled payload capacity. The stated weight was over the limit.
2020-2021 Mazda CX-30
The Mazda CX-30 had a sizable recall for its 2020 and 2021 vehicles. Why's that? Well, close to 14,000 of those cars were said to have a faulty power liftgate. It had the potential to lower if the motor was sitting on a hill.
2020-2021 Audi Q7
For any parents that owned a new Audi Q7 between 2020 and 2021, this partial recall would've been vital. More than 26,000 of those cars were said to be affected by a faulty airbag control module on the front passenger's side. It didn't work properly if a kid was sitting in the seat.
2013-2015 Nissan Pathfinder
The Nissan Pathfinder had a major recall when a big problem was detected in some of its vehicles. Over 267,000 models made between 2013 and 2015 were said to be affected by a bad brake light switch. Eventually, it would keep the brake lights on at all times.
2012-2014 Volkswagen Beetle
If you owned a Volkswagen Beetle that came out between 2012 and 2014, this partial recall may well have affected you. A selection of those vehicles had a serious airbag problem on the driver's side. They had the potential to explode upon deployment.
