The Ugliest Cars Automakers Released in the Last Decade
The Tesla Cybertruck and Model Y get plenty of flack for being some of the ugliest modern cars around, but there are plenty of others. Keep scrolling to dive into 35 of the ugliest cars manufactured and released in the last 10 years.
Lamborghini Revuelto
Any car that costs over $600,000 is impressive, but the Lamborghini Revuelto looks more like a sci-fi toy than a real car. Supercars can be sophisticated, but it seems the Revuelto missed the memo with its cartoonish proportions and overly aggressive bodywork.
BMW X6
The BMW X6 isn’t ridiculous to look at, but BMW’s modern moustache-shaped grilles have rubbed a lot of drivers the wrong way. The X6 is also awkwardly bulky, with a very front-heavy design that lacks the cool sportiness typically associated with the brand.
Mercedes GLE Coupe
The Mercedes GLE Coupe has also fallen victim to ugly accusations for its ungainly bulk. It’s wide at the front, slim in the middle, and droopy at the back, giving an unflattering silhouette that lacks any classic Mercedes styling. It was a huge disappointment.
Karma Revero
The Karma Revero has every feature you could ever want on a luxury car, but most people can’t see past its bizarre shape. The oddly stretched-out hood and stubby rear make the Revero feel inelegant, and none of its curves flow properly together.
Mazda MX-30
It’s a great sustainable car, but that doesn’t make it pretty! The Mazda M-30 has been mocked for looking like an ‘old person’ car, with a very basic design and almost comically small rear doors. It had bags of potential, but it looks like any budget crossover SUV.
Hyundai Ioniq 5
The problem with futuristic cars is that the designs are often a little too ridiculous to be mainstream. That’s why most people dislike the Hyundai Ioniq 5’s looks. It looks awkwardly oversized and stretched, with strange experimental-looking headlights and excessive “gimmicky” cladding.
Infiniti QX80 (second Gen)
The original Infiniti QX80 had a questionable design, but its second-gen facelift in 2018 was even worse. Drivers called it “blobby” and “whale-like”, with a ridiculously bulbous front that practically swallows up the tiny headlights. It’s more of a caricature than a car.
Chevrolet Bolt
It’s a good car, but the Chevrolet Bolt doesn’t quite have the looks to match. It has a tall, narrow body and a drooping hood that accentuates its strange bodywork. There’s not much else going on, leaving it looking like a half-finished budget vehicle.
Rolls-Royce Cullinan
It feels like sacrilege to call a Rolls-Royce ugly, but the Cullinan is widely-regarded as the brand’s worst-looking car. This car lacks the traditional Rolls-Royce elegance, with its imposing square hood, flashy wheels, and harsh-looking grille. The Cullinan was a very odd design choice for such a sophisticated brand.
Bentley Bentayga
Even Bentley isn’t immune to criticism, which is why the controversial Bentayga is on our list. It attempts to combine SUV bulk with classic Bentley luxury and fails because the bodywork is harshly sculpted and its proportions are too heavy to look elegant on the road.
Yangwang U8
You might not have heard of this car, but you certainly won’t forget it once you’ve seen it! The Yangwang U8 is so quirky it almost looks like a toy car, with exaggerated height, a cube-shaped body, and funky design choices that look more concept than production vehicle.
Kia EV6 GT
We love how well it performs, but the Kia EV6 GT has a very polarizing design. The swooping curves and sculpted bodywork are intended to be aerodynamic, but end up making the car look too aggressive and weirdly proportioned. It’s distinctive in the wrong way.
Cadillac Celestiq
You’d definitely struggle to fit this gargantuan beast in a parking spot! The Cadillac Celestiq is comically big, with an oversized hood and exaggerated overhangs that make it look more pretentious than ambitious. It’s too imposing to feel truly luxurious.
Toyota CH-R
The Toyota CH-R’s design makes an impact, but it’s probably not what the brand intended. The design is far too busy, with harsh side creases and tiny pinched windows that make the bodywork feel oppressive and bulky. It’s a classic case of combining too many aesthetics.
Elemental RP-1
Elemental RP-1 is a road-legal track car, and it costs over $100,000! However, many collectors are hesitant to spend that much money because the design appears unfinished and awkward, with a spindly stance that doesn’t do justice to its raw power and durability.
Nissan Kicks
Affordability doesn’t mean compromising on style, but Nissan forgot about that when designing the 2016 Kicks. It’s ugly in a bland, uninspired way, with an awkwardly tall build and basic bodywork that lacks character. Some drivers have even described it as a “discount rental car”.
Ferrari Purosangue
Yes, you read that right! This swollen SUV is actually a Ferrari. It has hints of luxury, but its bulbous front and weirdly extended sides lack the graceful proportions of the Ferraris we all know and love. The Purosangue is missing the brand’s trademark beauty.
Mini Aceman
Minis are some of the most charming cars around, so what happened with the Aceman? It’s far too blocky and can’t decide if it wants to be a compact car or an SUV. The futuristic elements are also half-hearted, giving it an unfinished concept look.
Fiat 500L
The classic Fiat 500 is gorgeous, but the 500L is definitely the ugly stepsister. It ruins the original’s proportions by stretching them out, including the headlights, and the result is simultaneously long and stubby. The 500L’s design is a distorted, clumsy replica.
ElectraMeccanica Solo
We have to praise the ElectraMeccanica Solo’s ambition, but it’s so futuristic it barely looks real. The single rear wheel is cool, but the tall, narrow body and shiny bodywork make it look more like a sci-fi pod than a real car. It sadly misses the mark on innovation.
Peugeot 3008 (third Gen)
The first and second-gen Peugeot 3008s weren’t bad, but the 2024 third-gen model took things a bit too far. It’s too cluttered to be elegant, with an oversized grille and busy detailing that draws the eye all over the place. The styling cues don’t work well together.
Audi Q2
Audi does sleek, sophisticated cars better than anyone, but the Q2 SUV doesn’t quite measure up. Despite its size, it looks stubby and disproportionate, and if it weren’t for the four-ring badge, we probably wouldn’t realize that this generic car was an Audi.
Citreon C-Zero
The 2020 Citroen C-Zero model is based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV kei car, and it inherited all of the original’s quirky design features. It’s oddly smooth all over and resembles a jellybean, with an exaggerated windshield and awkward mini hood. It falls into the “ugly futuristic” category.
Lexus LM
Speaking of ugly futuristic vehicles, the 2024 Lexus LM made some interesting design choices. Some of them work, but the slab-like shape of the minivan and the overwhelming grille make it look more like a dressed-up chauffeur vehicle than a luxury flagship van.
BMW G80 M3
We can’t deny that the BMW G80 M3 is a high-performance dream, but its design turned a lot of people off. The massive kidney grille is highly controversial, and the front bodywork is extremely aggressive and disproportionate to the rest of the car.
Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon
The G-Wagon is a modern Mercedes-Benz icon, but many drivers aren’t sold on its design. It tries to turn the original utilitarian Daimler G-Wagon build into a futuristic design that doesn’t quite land, giving it a harsh, cumbersome look that has been dressed up for the luxury market.
Jeep Gladiator
Jeep found much success with the Wrangler, but its attempt to co-opt that look for the 2019 Gladiator didn’t quite work. It looks like two different vehicles: a bulky off-road vehicle and modest pickup truck. The exposed pinch weld and other rugged features lack class and cohesion.
Hyundai Santa Fe MX-5
The Hyundai Santa Fe has been around for 25 years, but it’s the 2024 MX-5 model that most people take issue with. It takes the old ‘box on wheels’ design, but doesn’t do much to upstyle it, favoring rigid lines and heavy bodywork that makes it look ungainly.
McLaren Senna
It’s a monstrous speedster on the track, but the McLaren Senna is impressively unattractive. The exaggerated front aero pieces and side wings skew its proportions, making it look almost unfinished. Its performance definitely came at the expense of its appearance.
Toyota Prius (fifth Gen)
If you mention ugly cars, we guarantee that someone will mention the Toyota Prius. The 2023 fifth-gen model is by far the worst offender, though, with its futuristic wedge profile and weirdly flat windscreen. The design feels oppressively modern and lacks any aesthetic subtlety.
Ford Capri EV
In 2024, Ford turned the Capri into an EV and took a few questionable liberties with its design. It has been described as looking like a “large brick”, with an ugly SUV coupe build that doesn’t stand out like the original did.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
You may not recognize this version of the Suzuki Alto, as it’s sold through the brand’s Indian market subsidiary. However, it has become known for its looks, or lack thereof. It’s so small that there’s hardly any design to work with, and it looks cheap and basic.
Subaru Solterra
We’ve never seen a car with a squished nose before! Subaru tried to turn the Solterra’s generic crossover design into something more exciting, but failed to elevate it in any way. The result? A bland car with hideous black plastic cladding.
Mercedes-Benz Smart Fortwo
It looks like an old economy car, and that’s because it is! In 2022, Mercedes-Benz released its version of the ‘98 Daimler-Benz Fortwo and chose to amp up the polarizing, cartoon-like design. Some models are garishly bright, too, which only makes the car look less appealing.
Hispano-Suiza Carmen
Finally, we have the Hispano-Suiza Carmen, which is probably one of the most impressive, innovative cars in the world. Unfortunately, most drivers find it hideous because it’s bulbous, bug-eyed, and very harshly sculpted. It looks more like a kit car than a real vehicle.
